Khaos Autumn 2026 publications

This autumn, Khaos publishes three photobooks that take a critical yet tender look at the world we share. Shaped over years of work, they move from Baltic shorelines to the elements that make up the Finnish welfare state and out onto a changing sea, asking how we live with, and within, the landscapes we have altered. Join us at the book launches on 16.10., 30.10. and 12.11.2026.

Drifting / Drafting – Notes on the State of the World
by Kati Rapia & Ilona Valkonen

A documentary-poetic portrait of the Baltic Sea, where marine litter meets play, imagination and making things together. Between 2020 and 2026, Rapia and Valkonen held workshops in fourteen coastal towns and villages around the Baltic. There, young people turned beach trash into outfits and were photographed wearing their creations.

Alkuaine by Sakari Piippo

A documentary photo and essay book that breaks the Finnish welfare state down into its ingredients: concrete, wood, supermarkets, houses of worship and chickens. Sakari Piippo photographs clear-cuts, supermarkets, small congregations and limestone quarries seriously but with humour and warmth.

Phytopia by Maija Annikki Savolainen

Since 2013, Maija Annikki Savolainen has been photographing the shifting ecological state of the sea and the people sailing it. Phytopia asks what it means to move through a changed landscape, and what new ways of being together might emerge from a changing sea.
